Forgot this choice piece on Choice and SD from last week
written by Jack M. Balkin, a prof. of constitutional law at Yale
Starts out like this:
South Dakota's New Abortion Ban
JB
South Dakota's new abortion legislation has not yet been signed by the Governor. If it becomes law, it will not lead to a challenge to Roe v. Wade or Casey at the Supreme Court. Because the law bans almost all abortions, it will be immediately challenged in a declaratory judgment action, and a preliminary injunction will issue. That injunction will be upheld by the 8th Circuit, and the Supreme Court will deny certiorari. And that will be the end of the matter.
Why am I so certain that something like this will happen?

Women of SD—a manual for you
This diary on the
Daily Kos by Dysfraxion is a link to a do-it-yourself abortion.
Not being a medical person, I have no idea how good, bad, or indifferent this is, but the fact is that information is starting to circulate for women who may have no other options that to resort to the proverbial hangers. Hopefully there will be good information available, but have safe, legal abortion is still the best option for all.
How can it be that we are coming to this point?

How to win on abortion rights?
This diary by Nonpartisan is worth the read:
Daily Kosthe salient paragraph right before the conclusions:
You can flame me for my views in the comments, and that's legitimate, but irrelevant to the point I'm making. The point is, even though I believe a fetus is a human life, I support abortion rights as defined by Roe.. I don't support Roe because of the right to Choice, and I don't support it because of the right to Privacy. I support it, purely and simply, because if a woman is forced to keep a child in her womb that she does not want, then her body becomes property of the state. She loses her civil rights and her human rights, and most importantly, her EQUALITY. To do this to a woman shatters not only the rules of common decency, but the principles on which this country was founded. One cannot, I believe, be a true patriot, as I consider myself to be, and refuse a woman the right to abort a fetus that she cannot remove any other way. Even if it means killing something that is partially human.

Supremes rule out RICO
In an 8-0 decision the Supreme Court ruled that protesters outside abortion clinics cannot be prosecuted under RICO (racketeering) statutes.

Kos takes it a step further
Kos raps the March for Women's Lives (he's said that before) for the wasted money and energy. I disagree with him as the pro-choice base needed to be activated and motivated and being in D.C. that weekend was amazing. But the rest of the sentiment is right on.

For a while I have been an avid reader of blogs. I've told so many of my pro-choice activist friends that we need to engage in the dialogue and let one another know what is available to us on this "information highway." So here it is. To what degree I will start chiming in my own opinions we shall see.
What I hope to do is provide links here for those of us who want to keep up with what's going on in the pro-choice blogisphere.
A few ground rules since I'm setting this up. We are not going to debate pro- or anti-choice here. Those who want to invade the comments with anti-choice rhetoric will be deleted and if necessary, banned. We can debate the finer points of arguments presented on technicalities that are written into law or argued in the public forum.
The general blog ethos will also be used, ie. if you have a point to make that is anything other than your own personal opinion, please provide linked references so that we may all share in the wisdom of the sources that you use. I'm sure there will be lots more as this gets started. In the mean time, it's time to BLOG4CHOICE!
